We are all well aware of our world's quest to find an alternative to getting new ways of energy other than the natural oil that we are limited in. Fox has been reporting on a new way called fracking and has been a supporter of this new technique throughout numerous media reports. Fracking, or hydraulic fracturing, is the process of extracting natural gas from shale rock layers deep withing the earth. Fracking makes it possible to produce natural gas extraction in shale plays that were once unreachable with conventional technologies. Recent advancements in drilling technology have led to new man-made hydraulic fractures in shale plays. Our societies advancement in technology is constantly changing the way we do things but not always for the better. There is one major theme behind the madness of this news framing and lack of communication of simple facts in our media, MONEY. Our money driven economy has led to these pack of lies because media companies are all about making the most money it can make as told in this video:
- Disposable household income up by $1,200
- Lower energy bill
- Economic growth up $283 billion
- Federal & state tax payments up by $74 billion
These videos were very interesting to watch. I would like to know what exactly the environmental impacts of fracking are. The news report only showed evidence that fracking is good. They did talk about some of the concerns fracking causes, but they do not talk about the environmental issues it may cause. I would like to know where Fox got their facts about fracking. While the supposed economic benefits of fracking seem like reason enough to frack, they do not take into account the environment. Economy is based off of money. It has nothing to do with the environmental impacts. As you said in this post, Fox News only looked at the money and did not look at the whole picture. To answer your question about should we restrict the media, restricting the media is a violation of the First Amendment but there are ways around this. There are many different news outlets available. I feel like the best way to get an unbiased opinion is to watch Fox and some other news source that is more liberal. Then after watching the two sources, you can make your own opinion using facts from both sides. It is important for the news agencies to show where they got their facts. The video above, The Center for Industrial Progress does not seem like a very reputable source. If Fox had used scientists from a well respected school or governmental agency, fracking might seem like a better idea. This was an interesting read. I plan on spending some time this coming weekend to learn more about fracking and the environmental and economic impacts it has.
